GoPro feels the heat from HTC

With its HERO and HERO+ series models currently available along with the previous models, GoPro Inc. has been enjoying some kind of monopoly in the sub-sector of (nonprofessional) sports cameras. To date, no other manufacturer was even close to the success achieved by this brand by producing and selling waterproof camera.

However, things might soon become a bit different. The dominance of GoPro has been challenged and already GoPro feels the heat from HTC. This Taiwan based company, known as a mobile phone manufacturer, is coming up with a 16 megapixel waterproof camera that can be used when taking part in extreme sports.

Apart from the 16 MP sensors, the camera is equipped with wide angle lens and possesses the ability to connect with Android and iOS devices. HTC’s upcoming sports camera will also allow users connectivity through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and it will be available in a “tube shaped” waterproof body.

It is anticipated that HTC’s new camera will be competing against GoPro’s HERO 4, which will be released next year. The HERO 4 is expected to be equipped with 13 MP sensors and 1GHZ processor for better performance. GoPro Inc. has swept a mind boggling amount of $427 million in the stock market since it went public in June.

HTC is already sending out invitations for its big event “Double Exposure”, which will be held in New York. The company’s new sports camera is expected to make its debut at this event. There is a rumor as well that HTC is coming to an agreement with Amazon that may help expand its squeezed mobile phone market.
